Australians stuck in Argentina are pleading for a Government lifeline amid the extraordinary mass stranding of travellers around the world because of the coronavirus pandemic.

A Facebook group of Australian citizens says there are 12 children and a pregnant woman among about 100 Australians unable to leave Argentina after President Alberto Fernandez declared an "absolutely inflexible" nationwide lockdown.

Anyone found breaching the stay-at-home orders faces arrest.

Coronavirus: Australia launches criminal investigation into Ruby Princess

A criminal investigation has been launched in Australia into how cruise ship passengers were allowed to disembark in Sydney despite some exhibiting flu-like symptoms.

More than 600 people on board the Ruby Princess later tested positive for coronavirus and 10 have since died.

The ship remains off the coast with nearly 200 sick crew members on board.

Police in New South Wales said they would look into whether national biosecurity laws had been broken.

Australia has so far reported 5,548 coronavirus cases and 30 deaths.

NSW police launch criminal investigation into Ruby Princess fiasco
The NSW police commissioner, Mick Fuller, confirmed on Sunday that there will be a criminal investigation into the Ruby Princess debacle that will look at the actions of every agency involved as well as the cruise ship operator.

“There is clear evidence that [Covid-19] has been brought off that ship,” Fuller says. There’s clear evidence now when it stopped in New Zealand Covid-19 has come off that ship and at least 10 people have died in Australia from Covid-19. The only way I can get to the bottom of whether our national biosecurity laws and our state laws were broken is through a criminal investigation.”

Foreign students with over 1 year stay in Australia eligible to access superannuation: Government

In a relief to foreign students, including from India, facing financial hardships during the coronavirus pandemic, the Australian government has announced that those who have completed one year of stay in the country were eligible to access their superannuation.

The latest move comes a day after Prime Minister Scott Morrison said that overseas students were not eligible for any financial support as under their visa arrangements, it was a requirement for them to support themselves for a  ..
