Fowler independent Dai Le insists she is eligible to sit in parliament

Newly-elected Fowler MP Dai Le has accused the Labor Party of "trying to smear" her after denying speculation citizenship issues could make her ineligible to sit in parliament.

Ms Le, a refugee born in Vietnam, won the south-west Sydney seat from Labor and its high-profile candidate Kristina Keneally.

Fowler was a previously safe Labor seat and the 16 point swing the party suffered against it has been attributed to the decision to parachute Ms Keneally in as their candidate.

On Wednesday, questions were raised over whether the independent Ms Le had incorrectly stated on her Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) declaration form that she had never been a subject or citizen of another country.

Three former Sydney councillors will be investigated by the NSW corruption watchdog over whether they accepted bribes to favour two major developments.

The Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) will hold public hearings into the conduct of former Georges River councillors Constantine Hindi, Vincenzo Badalati and Philip Sansom as part of Operation Galley.

The watchdog will investigate if the councillors "dishonestly exercised their official functions" in exchange for gifts and benefits, including flights and accommodation for overseas trips, from 2014 until last year.

Star Casino manager 'disappeared' after allegedly transferring $13m into his account, inquiry told

A key figure in Star Casino's international VIP team is accused of misappropriating more than $13 million in gambling money before "disappearing" in 2020, an inquiry has heard.

The senior manager, who worked with Chinese high rollers, allegedly transferred a $13.3 million payment from a junket operator into his own account, rather than the Star's.

Another senior figure in the same VIP division, Marcus Lim, was accused of accepting kickbacks that funded his lifestyle, making corrupt payments and associating with "illegal, undesirable elements".

An investigation into Mr Lim, who was the president of international VIP sales, began in 2019 but wasn't finalised by the time he was made redundant in 2020.

Then-planning Minister, Rob Stokes announced the plan at a Property Council of Australia event.

Following the announcement, the government released a discussion paper detailing the changes, which included refunding developer application fees if councils failed to meet expected approval time frames.
