The bushfires currently raging in eastern Australia have raised fears the start of the Australian Open could be delayed.
Thirty thousand square miles of land have been engulfed by flames since bushfire season began weeks earlier than usual in September, with many of the 200 active fires located in the south-eastern states of Victoria, home to Melbourne Park, and neighbouring New South Wales.
Although reduced temperatures and increased rainfall over the weekend led to the repeal of all emergency warnings and the reduction of those in NSW to the lowest alert level, officials warned on Sunday that temperatures are set to return to over 40C by Thursday.
