Sydney property development with no sewerage connection turns dream into nightmare

It started as a dream but aspiring home owners Matt Pyatt and Michael Buckingham say it has become a nightmare.

The couple bought a land package as part of a new development in Sydney's south-west in February 2020.

More than two years later, the block remains vacant.

The reason? Sewerage.

The lots are still not connected to a wastewater network and that means no work can begin.

Mr Pyatt and Mr Buckingham have already had to pull out of a contract with their builder because of the delays — something they say has cost about $10,000.

Stuart MacGill pleads not guilty to stalking and intimidating Sydney bar owner

Former Australian Test cricketer Stuart MacGill has pleaded not guilty to stalking and intimidating a Sydney bar owner three weeks ago.

The ex-spin bowler, 51, was unable to attend the Downing Centre in Sydney this morning because he is self-isolating after testing positive for COVID-19.

Police say Mr MacGill and another man verbally abused Samantha Ford — licensee of The Argyle in The Rocks — outside a home and then a bar on Kent Street at Millers Point on February 1.

After handing himself into Day Street Police Station on Friday, Mr MacGill was charged with intimidating and using offensive language in a public place.

Kylie Kwong joins South Eveleigh eateries to cook Friday meals for 'tired and exhausted' RPA hospital staff

South Eveleigh's local eateries are delivering "a big thank you" to the nurses and doctors in their local area by doing what they do best.

For 10 weeks, four restaurateurs and a beverage maker are preparing 50 meals and bespoke non-alcoholic drinks for frontline medical workers at the Royal Prince Alfred (RPA) Hospital every Friday.

Celebrity chef Kylie Kwong has been making a "special RPA fried rice" and Hokkien noodle salad, using her mother's recipe and herbs that she grows locally.

"We read about it, hear and see the stories every day, and I think first and foremost, to acknowledge their hard work is very important," Ms Kwong told Evenings host Sarah Macdonald on ABC Radio Sydney.

VALUABLE BUSINESS ADVICE FROM SUCCESSFUL ENTREPRENEURS

 Hi there,

I was not working as per the rules when I started out as an entrepreneur. I was not listening to what other were telling me and was blowing my own trumpet until I fell and realised that I was wrong. Finally, I have understood the meaning of going ahead with the support of the advice of others. I am not talking about listening to those who do not understand your industry or work. I mean you need to listen to people who have been there and done that. Yes, I mean entrepreneurs who have succeeded and can offer valuable advice to new starters. Here is an article that will give you a quick look into what the most successful people in the world have to say about growing a business. Do read it.

Māori edge men's NRL All Stars game against Indigenous side after Indigenous women win 18-8

Canberra's Jordan Rapana could miss the first month of the NRL season after twice being reported for shoulder charges during the Māori All Stars' fiery 16-10 win over the Indigenous All Stars.

After conceding the opening try, the Māori ran in three unanswered four-pointers before hanging tough amid a last-ditch Indigenous surge at Western Sydney Stadium on a wet Saturday night.

Warriors forward Josh Curran (head knock) was the only obvious injury concern, the Indigenous lock walking off under his own steam after incidentally copping the hip of Rapana while chasing a grubber.

NSW by-elections a 'huge disappointment' for Liberals as Labor claims Bega and Nationals hold Monaro

The NSW government has been pushed further into minority after Labor won the seat of Bega for the first time in one of four by-elections held in the state.

ABC chief elections analyst Antony Green said Labor's Michael Holland was set to win the seat with a swing of more than 13 per cent.

The electorate was created in 1988 and has never been won by Labor.

Liberal candidate Fiona Kotvojs's primary vote was about 35 per cent.

Her Coalition colleague Trent Zimmerman, the federal MP for North Sydney, described the result as "a huge disappointment".

High-tech operation on Sydney Harbour steps up hunt for illegal fishers

NSW marine authorities have upped the ante in its fight against illegal fishing and black market sales on Sydney's waters.

Despite NSW Fisheries seizing about 50,000 illegally caught fish and invertebrates in NSW each year, authorities said it was not enough to curb the rise in unlawful activity.

Operation Ascend, a "high profile compliance exercise" using two high-tech Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPV), began in Sydney Harbour in December.

It has already intercepted hundreds of boats since it began, detecting 83 offences, some of them major.
