NRMA reveals worst roads in New South Wales after 28,000 votes counted

The NRMA has named and shamed the worst roads in New South Wales as voted by more than 28,000 people.

The list, compiled by motoring body NRMA, named Parramatta Road at Auburn as the worst road in the state.

Military Road in Mosman, Hills Motorway at Carlingford, Victoria Road at West Ryde, South-Western Motorway at Moorebank and Wakehurst Parkway at Elanora Heights also made the top 10.

NRMA spokesperson Peter Khoury said the state of the road and traffic on the section of Parramatta Road were the main reasons it took out the top spot.

Investigation underway after Sydney trains halted due to communications issue

Sydney trains have returned but an investigation continues into why a communications failure caused the entire network to shut down, stranding thousands of peak-hour commuters.

Trains ground to a halt at 2:45pm and did not resume running until more than one hour later.

The breakdown occurred in the digital radio system that signallers and train controllers use to stay in contact with crews, Transport Management Centre spokesman Derrick Peterson said.

Soon passengers took to social media to report being stuck at stations and halted mid-journey, and large queues began forming around platforms.

Sydney Trains to consider reimbursing impacted commuters on merit after network shutdown

Sydney Trains will consider reimbursing commuters on an individual basis after the system ground to a halt on Wednesday, leaving commuters stranded at peak-hour.

Trains stopped for an hour at 2:45pm after drivers lost contact on the digital radio system, which is used for emergency communication between train crews.

Some passengers were stuck mid-journey, left on the platform or directed to take buses or ride-share services.

Other passengers forked out to stay in Sydney for the night rather than wait for a bus or train.

"All of us apologise," Sydney Trains operations officer Howard Collins said on Thursday morning.

Man arrested over alleged murder of Sydney woman Dannielle Finlay-Jones

A man wanted over the alleged murder of a Sydney woman has been arrested after a near-12 hour stand-off with New South Wales Police in the Blue Mountains.

Dannielle Finlay-Jones, 31, was found with serious head injuries at a Cranebrook home in Sydney's west on Sunday.

She could not be saved and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Earlier, police announced they were searching for 33-year-old Ashley Gaddie in connection with the alleged killing.
